Vietnam showcased its evolving coffee industry at Kaffee Campus 2026 in Berlin on May 5. The event, organized by the German Roasted Coffee Association, served as a platform for the Vietnamese Trade Office to introduce the country’s transition from a bulk supplier to a producer of specialty and branded coffees.

Under the framework of the annual event, the Vietnamese Trade Office in Germany presented a dedicated product exhibition area featuring a “breath of fresh air” for attendees—branded roasted and ground products, specialty coffees, and new consumption styles, including filter coffee and coffee husk tea. Key Vietnamese enterprises, including Phuc Sinh Corporation, Dung Loi, and Don Elephant, participated, signaling a growing ambition to directly reach German consumers and artisanal roasters.

While Germany remains Vietnam’s largest single import market for coffee—accounting for 13.7% of Vietnam’s global exports—the current trade is predominantly one-dimensional. In 2025, bilateral coffee trade turnover reached US$1.22 billion, a dramatic increase of 103% in value and 48.5% in volume, driven mainly by Robusta green beans.

Andreas Giest, President of the German Roast Coffee Association, acknowledged Vietnam’s dominance in supplying industrial producers but noted a significant gap in the premium sector.

“Germany currently imports a substantial volume of Vietnamese coffee, primarily Robusta,” Giest stated. “However, this coffee mainly supplies industrial producers, with very limited access to German artisanal coffee processors. Vietnam also possesses many high-quality Arabica varieties, but further development of high-quality coffee is essential to increase its direct presence in upscale German coffee and beverage shops.”

This observation highlights a major opportunity. Germany is Europe’s largest importer of green coffee, with over 90% of its beans sourced from producing nations. The country’s total coffee market—including home and takeaway consumption—generates nearly €20 billion in revenue annually. With an average per-capita consumption of 167 liters of coffee per year and approximately 2,500 active roasters, the market offers significant potential, particularly in the direct-trade specialty coffee sector.

Seizing the moment, the Vietnamese Trade Office extended an official invitation to German businesses and buyers to attend the Vietnam International Sourcing 2026 exhibition. The event, positioned as a key international supply chain gathering, is scheduled to take place from September 3-5, 2026, in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the Trade Office, the exhibition represents a prime opportunity for German firms to meet leading distributors from Vietnam, the wider region, and the global market, further strengthening bilateral trade ties.

The Kaffee Campus 2026 program concluded with a Cupping Session, where attendees experienced the distinctive sensory profile of Vietnamese coffee—characterized as rich, strong, with high caffeine content and a deep aroma.

Kaffee Campus, an annual roving event hosted by the German Roasted Coffee Association, provides a critical forum for its members, producers, importers, and exporters to exchange information, experience new varieties, and connect with global partners. This year’s event in Berlin has successfully placed Vietnam’s premium coffee ambitions firmly on the European radar.
