Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has inaugurated the significant expansion of its green coffee processing facility in Varginha, Minas Gerais, marking a strategic milestone in the Group’s long-term commitment to Brazil’s coffee sector. This development reinforces LDC’s 25-year presence in the heart of Brazil’s largest coffee-producing region and aligns with global growth objectives focused on enhancing agricultural supply chains.

The expanded complex now spans 31,000 square meters—a substantial increase of 13,000 square meters—equipping it to store nearly one million bags of coffee and process over 2.5 million bags annually. This upgrade doubles the site’s processing throughput and boosts shipping capacity by 50%, creating one of South America’s most advanced logistics hubs for coffee. According to Arthur Graf, LDC’s Head of Coffee for Brazil, the facility now stands as a cornerstone of efficiency and scale, positioning LDC to better serve global markets while deepening roots in the local economy.

Technological innovation lies at the core of the expansion. The facility integrates robotic loading systems and cutting-edge box silo storage technology, maximizing spatial efficiency without compromising accessibility. Beyond productivity, LDC prioritized operational safety, implementing protocols that exceed national standards. These enhancements reflect the company’s commitment to safeguarding employees, partners, and the integrity of the coffee supply chain.

For Brazil’s small and medium-scale coffee growers, the expansion translates to tangible benefits. "By synchronizing our increased capacity with harvest cycles, we enable farmers to sell immediately post-harvest—even at peak seasons—ensuring smoother market access and optimized pricing opportunities," Graf emphasized. This agility not only streamlines domestic and export logistics but also empowers producers with greater commercial flexibility.

With over 35 years invested in Brazil’s coffee landscape, LDC now operates three major processing units—in Varginha, Nova Venécia (ES), and Matipó (MG)—supported by seven regional commercial offices. The company employs approximately 480 people nationwide, underscoring its role as an embedded partner in the country’s agricultural prosperity.
