The 6th Shanghai International Coffee Culture Festival is set to begin on April 30, transforming the city into a sprawling caffeine-fueled playground just in time for the May Day holiday.

The festival's opening ceremony will take place at the North Bund water stage in Hongkou district, kicking off five days of coffee-themed festivities running through May 4. The main venue will stretch along a picturesque 2.3-kilometer riverside promenade at the North Bund, which will be reimagined as an open-air, block-style market.

This year's event promises an unprecedented immersive experience spanning water, land, and air. Visitors can expect a dramatic water stage, a vibrant riverside market, and even an exclusive low-altitude airship cruise — offering entirely new perspectives on Shanghai's beloved coffee culture.

Nearly 300 brand booths and more than 20 international coffee shops will be featured across four distinct zones: the international zone, industrial chain zone, crossover integration zone, and interactive experience zone.

But coffee is just the beginning. The festival seamlessly weaves together a diverse tapestry of cultural offerings, including intangible cultural heritage crafts, revitalized traditional brands, film and music programming, e-sports competitions, and recreational fishing. Dedicated zones will also highlight the distinctive products and cultures of Yunnan, Shigatse, and Guizhou, fostering regional cooperation and exchange.

For the first time, the festival will achieve full citywide coverage, with each of Shanghai's districts rolling out differentiated coffee-themed events tailored to local strengths. Pudong New Area will host the Lujiazui Coffee Festival, connecting coffee with intangible cultural heritage. Huangpu will incorporate coffee experiences into literary events, including the Sinan Book Club and second-hand book fairs. Xuhui will feature crossover events bridging coffee with the beauty and cosmetics industry. Additionally, other districts will offer a diverse array of activities, such as cultural and tourism markets, art exhibitions, and carnivals.

The scale of the celebration is staggering. More than 6,000 coffee traders and shops across the city will participate in joint promotions, bringing nearly 200 of the world's leading coffee brands and industry enterprises to Shanghai. Nearly 50 flagship events and over 40 prestigious international coffee competitions will take place, with total attendance expected to surpass 1.1 million visitors.

On the industrial front, the festival isn't just about consumption — it's a serious business event. Highlights include the Global Coffee Industry Forum and the Shanghai International Coffee Exhibition. Organizers will also unveil an annual coffee industry white paper and launch a citywide campaign to select premium coffee shops.
