January 29 - 2026
Coffee Geography Magazine
Beverage giant Keurig Dr Pepper has voluntarily recalled tens of thousands of McCafé Premium Roast Decaf coffee pods after discovering they may contain caffeine despite being labeled as decaffeinated.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published the recall notice, classifying the action as a Class II recall on January 23, 2026. This classification indicates the agency believes the mislabeled pods could cause temporary or medically reversible health issues, particularly for individuals who avoid caffeine for health reasons.
The recall, first initiated by the company on December 6, 2025, encompasses 960 cartons of the 29-ounce K-Cup Pod variety. With 84 pods per carton, the recall totals more than 80,600 individual coffee pods.
Affected Product Details:
Consumers are urged to check their pantries for McCafe Premium Roast Decaf Coffee K-Cup Pods with the following identifiers:
• Recall Number: H-0419-2026
• Best By Date: 17 NOV 2026
• Batch Number: 5101564894
• UPC Code: 043000073438
The pods were distributed to retailers in California, Indiana, and Nevada. According to Keurig Dr Pepper, all affected products have been removed from store shelves, and retailers have been instructed to notify consumers directly about how to obtain replacements.
The company stated the recall is "firm-initiated," meaning Keurig itself identified the potential labeling violation and reported it to the FDA. The enforcement report suggests several hundred cartons are believed to be incorrectly marked, posing a significant risk for those who consume decaf for conditions like certain heart problems, anxiety disorders, or during pregnancy.
As of the latest report, no adverse events have been publicly reported. Consumers in possession of the recalled pods should stop using them and contact the point of purchase for a full refund or exchange.
