This Sunday, January 25, Bitty & Beau’s Coffee celebrates a milestone that transcends a typical business anniversary: ten years of fundamentally reshaping how people with disabilities are seen and employed in America. What began as a personal mission for founders Amy and Ben Wright has blossomed into a national movement served in coffee cups.

Founded in 2016 and named for two of their children with Down syndrome, Bitty and Beau, the company was born from a profound need. Confronting the stark statistic that nearly 80% of people with disabilities are unemployed, the Wrights envisioned more than a charity. They built a for-profit, customer-facing business where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities hold highly visible, essential roles.

“Ten years ago, we were simply trying to build a place our kids could belong,” said co-founder Amy Wright. “We didn't know what it would become. This anniversary reminds me that when people are trusted with real work and visible roles, it doesn't just change a business—it changes how people see one another.”

From a single shop, Bitty & Beau’s has grown into a nationally recognized brand with locations across the United States, employing hundreds of team members. It has challenged long-held assumptions, proving that inclusion and excellence are not just compatible, but synergistic. The company has garnered national acclaim for advancing inclusive employment, turning every coffee order into an opportunity for connection and understanding.

To commemorate the anniversary, the flagship Wilmington location at 4949 New Centre Drive will host a 10 Year Celebration from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., featuring live music, a DJ, a dance floor, and complimentary coffee. The event honors the team members who are the heart of the mission.

Over the past decade, Bitty & Beau’s Coffee has become a reference point in conversations about employment, dignity, and the future of work. While Sunday’s party is in Wilmington, the milestone reflects a growing national movement toward genuine inclusion. The celebration is not just for a company, but for a proven idea: that everyone belongs, and that a simple cup of coffee can help build a world where that belief is a daily practice.
