Unique Coffee Roasters Plans First N.J. Location with $1.6M Middletown Property Purchase

A New York-based coffee company is brewing a major expansion into the Garden State. Unique Coffee Roasters, which originated on Staten Island, has cemented its plans for a first New Jersey location with the $1.6 million purchase of a property in Middletown, Monmouth County. The company acquired a 9,712-square-foot building at 719-721 Route 35, a site praised for its prime visibility and access.
According to the company, the new space boasts ground-level access and large windows that “fill the interior with natural light.” The location's potential was highlighted by Joshua Glussky of Sheldon Gross Realty, who brokered the deal. “From the steady flow of motorists along Route 35 to its hard-to-miss highway frontage, this is an exceptional location,” Glussky said. “I can’t imagine a property checking off more boxes.”
Joseph Ferrara, president of Unique Coffee Roasters, outlined the vision for the new facility, which will function primarily as a roastery and warehouse where coffee is sold by the bag. However, the plans extend beyond mere production. The company intends to include a tasting room, offering customers an opportunity to sample the products and learn about the intricate coffee-making process firsthand.
This new chapter continues a story that began humbly. The business was started “in a one-car garage with a simple goal in mind: Deliver to New Yorkers a different cup of coffee, something Unique.” The company's philosophy centers on taste, quality, and consistency, employing advanced roasting techniques to, as their website states, "capture the subtle nuances in every bean."
The new Middletown location will offer the company's full collection of single-origin coffees sourced from countries including Costa Rica, Sumatra, Colombia, Kenya, and Ethiopia. The menu also features flavored coffees like Belgian chocolate and apple cider donut, alongside loose leaf tea and gourmet hot chocolate. With the New Jersey foothold established, Unique Coffee Roasters is already looking ahead, with aspirations for a potential future location in Colts Neck.
