De’Longhi has introduced the Magnifica Duo Automatic Espresso Machine, a countertop appliance designed to streamline the preparation of barista-style hot and iced coffee beverages. The machine combines a conical burr grinder, automatic milk frothing, and a multi-pressure brewing system to produce 20 preset drink options ranging from traditional espresso and drip coffee to iced lattes and cold brew.
At the core of the Magnifica Duo’s versatility is its ability to vary water pressure and temperature according to the selected beverage. For espresso, the machine employs high-pressure extraction (up to 15 bars) paired with a pre-infusion phase that evenly saturates the coffee puck before full pressure is applied. This technique promotes even extraction and enhances the intensity and crema of the shot. When the user selects a drip coffee, the system switches to a lower pressure profile and skips pre-infusion, allowing the coffee grounds to bloom gently and produce a smoother, larger-volume brew reminiscent of filter coffee.
The cold brew function represents a notable departure from conventional methods. Standard cold brew requires steeping coarse grounds in cold water for 12 hours or more. De’Longhi’s system completes the process in approximately three minutes. It does so by utilizing ambient-temperature water and very low pressure to slowly pass water through the coffee bed, extracting the characteristic low-acid, naturally sweet flavor profile without the long wait. The machine’s onboard software adjusts pump speed and water delivery to suit each brew method automatically, based on the drink selection made via the touchscreen interface.
A built-in conical burr grinder with adjustable settings handles whole beans on demand, grinding directly into the brew unit to preserve freshness. The grinder’s steel burrs can be calibrated for fineness, allowing users to tailor extraction for different coffee origins and roast levels. The automatic milk frother draws milk from an integrated carafe, heats and textures it, and dispenses it directly into the cup. The frother is capable of producing both steamed milk for hot lattes and cappuccinos, as well as cold foam for iced beverages, without requiring manual steaming wand technique.
The machine accommodates households with multiple coffee drinkers through three user profiles. Each profile can store individual preferences for drink size, coffee strength (adjusted by modifying the dose of ground coffee), and brewing temperature. Once configured, a single touch recalls the customized settings, removing the need to reprogram parameters each time a different family member uses the machine.
Maintenance has been automated as well. After each milk-based drink, the system rinses the milk circuit with hot water and steam. Removable components, including the drip tray, water tank, and milk carafe, are dishwasher-safe. A dedicated self-clean cycle and descaling program prompts users when maintenance is required, and the brew group is accessible for occasional rinsing.
The Magnifica Duo’s control panel features a full-color display and icons for the 20 preset beverages. These presets include classics like espresso, espresso lungo, americano, and doppio+, alongside drip coffee, iced cappuccino, iced latte macchiato, and the rapid cold brew. The machine’s footprint is designed to fit under standard kitchen cabinets, and its bean hopper holds sufficient beans for multiple brew cycles. A bypass chute also accepts pre-ground coffee for decaf or specialty blends.
Under the hood, a thermoblock heating system rapidly brings water to the optimal temperature for each drink, while a high-performance pump delivers pressure on demand. The pump’s output is managed by the machine’s processor, which can vary the flow rate from a gentle trickle for cold brew to full 15-bar pressure for espresso. This dynamic pressure control, combined with a precise pre-infusion stage for espresso and a bloom phase for drip, allows the Magnifica Duo to replicate multiple brewing methods in one chassis.
De’Longhi positions the Magnifica Duo as an all-in-one solution that compresses several standalone appliances—grinder, espresso machine, drip brewer, milk frother, and cold brew maker—into a single unit. By engineering distinct pressure profiles for each extraction style and tightly integrating the grinder and milk system, the manufacturer aims to deliver café-quality consistency with minimal user intervention. The machine will be available through major appliance retailers and the company’s website; pricing and exact launch date have not been disclosed at the time of writing.
