As a beacon of Colombian coffee culture, Juan Valdez®, the iconic brand owned by over 548,000 Colombian coffee-growing families, is deepening its roots in the United States with a strategic expansion plan. By the end of 2025, the company aims to operate 16 stores across key American cities, including Miami and Orlando, merging the rich heritage of 100% premium Colombian coffee with modern consumer demands for sustainability, innovation, and immersive experiences.
Juan Valdez’s expansion is more than a business strategy—it’s a mission to share Colombia’s coffee legacy with the world. Founded in 2002 by the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia (a non-profit representing smallholder farmers), the brand has evolved into a global symbol of quality and ethical sourcing. In 2021, Juan Valdez earned B Corporation certification, joining an elite network of companies committed to social and environmental excellence. This certification underscores its dedication to fair compensation for farmers, eco-friendly practices, and community empowerment, ensuring every cup served supports sustainable livelihoods.
The United States, with its thriving $48 billion coffee market and 150 million daily drinkers, offers fertile ground for Juan Valdez’s growth. Sebastián Mejía, Vice President of International Business, explains: “American consumers increasingly seek authenticity and purpose in their purchases. We cater to this by offering not just exceptional coffee, but a story of tradition, craftsmanship, and sustainability. Our stores are gateways to Colombia’s coffee regions, inviting customers to savor flavors while supporting farming communities.”
Juan Valdez’s U.S. stores are strategically positioned to captivate diverse audiences, from busy professionals to curious tourists:
- Miami International Airport: A global crossroads, this location introduces travelers to Colombian coffee culture amid high international traffic.
- International Drive, Orlando: Nestled near Disney World and Universal Studios, this store taps into Orlando’s 75 million annual tourists, offering a caffeine haven amid theme park adventures.
- Florida Mall & Sawgrass Mills: These sprawling shopping centers attract families and fashion-forward shoppers, providing a premium coffee break in retail hubs.
- Wynwood The Dorsey (Miami): In Miami’s artsy Wynwood district, known for murals and trendy cafes, Juan Valdez adds a touch of Colombian elegance to the creative scene.
- Fulcrum Orlando: This professional center caters to entrepreneurs seeking a sophisticated workspace paired with high-quality coffee.
- Miami Springs: A rapidly growing residential area near the airport, this upcoming store will serve locals and travelers alike, fostering community connections.
Each Juan Valdez store is designed to transport visitors to Colombia’s coffee heartland. Baristas trained in traditional brewing methods prepare drinks using beans sourced directly from Federación growers, while rustic-chic interiors feature earthy tones, wooden accents, and photography of Colombian landscapes. The menu highlights single-origin pour-overs, velvety cappuccinos, and unique offerings like *tinto* (Colombian black coffee) paired with *almojábanas* (cheesy bread). Shoppers can also take home ethically sourced coffee beans, branded merchandise, and specialty gifts.
Juan Valdez’s commitment to the planet resonates with eco-conscious consumers:
- Carbon-Neutral Initiatives: Offsetting emissions through reforestation projects in Colombia.
- Eco-Packaging: Compostable cups and recyclable materials reduce waste.
- Direct Trade: By bypassing intermediaries, the brand ensures farmers receive 10–15% higher premiums than fair-trade standards.
With 46 stores already operating across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, Juan Valdez’s U.S. expansion marks a pivotal chapter. Future plans include exploring markets like New York and Los Angeles, launching limited-edition coffee blends, and enhancing digital engagement through app-based loyalty programs.
As Mejía notes, “Our goal is to make Juan Valdez synonymous with exceptional coffee and positive impact. Every store opening is a step toward a future where consumers worldwide cherish the hands that harvest their coffee.”
