The National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia (FNC) and the nation's agricultural community are in mourning following the passing of Dr. Camilo Restrepo Osorio, a revered member of the FNC’s Board of Directors and a lifelong champion for the dignity and prosperity of coffee growers. He was 76.

Dr. Restrepo’s death marks the close of a monumental chapter in Colombian coffee, ending a dedicated service career that spanned more than four decades. His journey began at the grassroots level on the Departmental Committee of Coffee Growers of Valle del Cauca, where his leadership and profound understanding of the producer's plight first shone.

His unwavering commitment and sharp intellect propelled him to national prominence, earning him the trust of his peers to serve as a Delegate for Valle del Cauca to the FNC’s influential Board of Directors and its National Committee.

Remembered by colleagues as a man of "strong character and unwavering positions," Dr. Restrepo was guided by a core, unshakeable principle: the urgent need to dignify work in the coffee fields. He was not a man of empty rhetoric; his firmness was a tool wielded consistently and persistently in the pursuit of tangible results.

Every intervention he made in boardrooms and committee meetings was strategically aimed at a single goal: securing the well-being of the coffee-growing family and fighting for better living conditions for the producer at the origin of Colombia’s most famous export.

“The passing of Dr. Camilo Restrepo leaves an immense void in our institution and in the heart of Colombian coffee growing,” said a statement from the FNC’s leadership. “He was a servant leader in the truest sense. His clarity of vision and his profound social convictions were a compass for the Federation.

We have not just lost a director; we have lost a brother, a mentor, and an indomitable spirit who always reminded us whom we serve: the men and women whose hands harvest our coffee.”

Beyond his official roles, Dr. Restrepo was known for his deep connection to the land itself. An exemplary coffee grower, he understood the challenges of the harvest not just as policy points, but as daily realities. This dual perspective as both a producer and a policymaker gave his advocacy a unique and powerful authenticity.

His legacy is woven into the fabric of the modern Colombian coffee industry—in the policies that protect growers, in the programs that support their families, and in the steadfast belief that a cup of Colombian coffee carries within it the value of dignified labor.

Dr. Camilo Restrepo Osorio is survived by his family, his fellow coffee growers, and an industry forever changed by his conviction and service. The National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia honors his memory and extends its deepest condolences to his loved ones.
