Terra Kaffe, the innovative coffee tech brand, has unveiled its most compact and accessible machine yet: the Demi. This sleek super-automatic espresso machine aims to bring barista-level precision and café-quality flavor to home brewers seeking a smaller footprint and a simpler, more affordable entry point.
Designed explicitly for discerning coffee lovers who prioritize exceptional espresso and drip coffee brewed fresh from whole beans, Demi represents a strategic expansion for Terra Kaffe beyond its flagship TK-02 model. "We’re not a single-SKU business anymore," declared founder and CEO Sahand Dilmaghani, emphasizing the company's growth less than two years after its initial product launch. He credits the TK-02 as "an incredible springboard for the brand," paving the way for Demi.

The machine's name, "Demi," meaning "half" in Latin, directly reflects its core design principle. "From a volume and size perspective, we had that north star from the beginning to make it as compact as possible," Dilmaghani explained, noting the homage to espresso's Italian roots. Demi is approximately half the size of the TK-02.
Despite its miniaturization, Demi inherits Terra Kaffe's core brewing technology. It utilizes the same internal engineering as the TK-02, promising an "incredible cup" of espresso-based drinks. Key functional differences define Demi's position: it lacks integrated milk frothing, meaning latte-style drinks aren't achievable with a single touch. "A lot of people really want a Terra Kaffe product but don’t necessarily need the milk frothing," Dilmaghani stated, targeting consumers desiring simplicity. To address frothing needs, Terra Kaffe plans to release a standalone steamed milk frother later this year, alongside other accessories, maintaining an overall cost advantage compared to the TK-02.
Further concessions to size include a smaller bean hopper and water tank. Demi also diverges by not accepting pre-ground beans and replacing the TK-02's touchscreen with an intuitive analog dot-matrix display and brushed-metal selector knob. Smart capabilities found on the larger model are also absent.
"Our goal was to create that smaller form factor while still offering all the same speed, convenience, design, and coffee quality, but at a lower price point," Dilmaghani affirmed. "It became very clear we are very well positioned to deliver on our mission... in a much more expansive way."
Demi's core capabilities focus on delivering quality and convenience:
• Hybrid Brewing: Users can effortlessly switch between crafting rich espresso-based drinks and full drip coffee.
• Precision & Heat: Proprietary software and best-in-class hardware ensure consistent, café-quality brews, aided by superior heating technology for hotter coffee.
• Control: A grinder dial allows precise grind control, while push-button customization adjusts strength, volume, and more.
• Expansive Menu: It boasts the largest menu of any compact automatic machine, including espresso, lungo, Americano, and drip coffee.
• Thoughtful Design: Designed in collaboration with the award-winning Ammunition Group (known for TK-02, Apple, and Polaroid), Demi features vibrant color options (Cloud, Slate, Forest, Sand), premium touchpoints, and modern minimalism. Practical elements include dual-side water level visibility, an adjustable spout accommodating cups up to 5.5 inches, an improved brew compartment for easier cleaning, and a self-cleaning system. Despite its compact size, Terra Kaffe emphasizes maximizing the capacity of the water tank, bean hopper, and waste bin.
Positioning Demi as a cost-effective solution, Dilmaghani highlighted the rising price of café visits and pods: "At a time when café drinks can cost $7 and pods can exceed $1.50 each, Demi helps coffee lovers save big without sacrificing taste." He noted that TK-02 customers saved over $20 million brewing at home last year alone, and Demi aims to build on that success.
Founded in 2018 and based in New York, Terra Kaffe has fostered partnerships with renowned roasters including Onyx Coffee, Sightglass Coffee, Parlor Coffee, and Equator Coffee.
