The wait is over. Today, Geneva’s Palexpo exhibition centre transformed into the vibrant heart of the global specialty coffee scene as the World of Coffee, the Specialty Coffee Association’s flagship event, officially opened its doors. Thousands of coffee professionals and enthusiasts from across the world streamed into the venue for Europe’s premier coffee trade show, drawn by the promise of groundbreaking innovation, rich cultural exchanges, and sustainable industry practices. Attendees gathered not only to discover the latest in coffee but to forge connections that fuel commerce, community, and global trade.
Garfield Kerr, President of the Specialty Coffee Association’s Board of Directors, inaugurated the event with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting. The sold-out exhibition floor now buzzes with energy, hosting over 430 companies. Key sponsors include Host Sponsor BWT water+more, Platinum Sponsor Barista Attitude, Diamond Sponsor Nestlé Professional, and Gold Sponsor Alpro. Café de Colombia, this year’s Portrait Country, captivates visitors with exclusive cultural displays and a pop-up café, while representatives from 160+ countries showcase their craft.
Anticipation hangs thick in the air, fragrant with freshly roasted beans. Farmers from Colombia and Rwanda share stories at their booths; roasters from Berlin and Seoul fine-tune gleaming equipment; baristas from Melbourne to Mexico City rehearse for high-stakes competitions; and coffee lovers weave through bustling aisles, eyes alight with discovery.
Across Palexpo’s vast halls, espresso machines hiss, tasting cups clink, and new technologies—from shimmering grinders to sustainable packaging—draw crowds. Sack-laden displays of green beans from exotic origins invite exploration, while a tapestry of global scents unfolds: bright Ethiopian citrus, chocolatey Sumatran depths, floral Kenyan notes, and nutty Brazilian tones.
Onstage, the World Coffee Championships intensify. Competitors in the World Barista Championship calibrate grinders with precision, while the World Brewers Cup demands quiet focus. Nearby, the Latte Art Arena mesmerizes as milk transforms into ephemeral masterpieces, and the World Cup Tasters and Cezve/Ibrik Championships challenge palates and traditions. Winners will be crowned this Saturday, June 28.
Knowledge flows freely in packed seminars, where experts dissect climate resilience, roasting innovations, and the neuroscience of flavor. Cupping labs echo with rhythmic slurps as professionals and newcomers alike explore new harvests. Every corner sparks human connection: importers shake hands with growers, old friends embrace across continents, and roasters share samples with café owners. Here, the entire coffee chain—from soil to sip—converges, collaborates, and celebrates.
Geneva isn’t just hosting the World of Coffee; it’s breathing it. Through Saturday, June 28, Palexpo remains the undisputed global hub of coffee passion, innovation, and community—a living testament to the world’s love affair with the bean.
