The award ceremony and auction of the best coffees of the 7th Colombia, Land of Diversity National Quality Contest are just around the corner: they will take place on October 1 within the framework of the 2nd International Fair of Coffee, Cocoa and Agritourism, in Neiva, Huila.
The 41 finalist coffees will be auctioned before national and international bidders, after awarding COP 25 million to each of the five best lots for the attributes of acidity, body, softness and balance, as well as the most exotic coffee.
Of the 699 lots received from 14 departments (produced in the harvest of the first half of 2022), 213 moved on to the second round and their producers will receive quality premiums of up to COP 400,000 per load (125-kg). Finally, the best 41 coffees, including the 5 winners, will be auctioned.
Organized by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC), the contest seeks to identify the best coffees in Colombia and position them in differentiated, high-value market niches. Over time, the contest has established itself as a great showcase of sensory diversity.
The contest is also a tribute to the dedication and perseverance of coffee growers in the production of high-quality coffees in the country. Potential bidders and the jurors will arrive in the capital of Huila on Tuesday, September 27 to be officially welcomed, and the next day they will take a tour on the so-called Magical Coffee Route, which includes a visit to two coffee farms.
Between Thursday, September 29 and Saturday, October 1, there will be calibrations and cup tastings of the finalist coffees, the coffee growers’ arrival is scheduled, and there will be a tour in the Tatacoa desert.
Finally, on Saturday, October 1, the award ceremony for the five best attributes and the respective auction will be held at the fair, with the spirit and enthusiasm that has always characterized this exciting bid. Among the special guests at the ceremony will be the FNC CEO, Roberto Vélez; the FNC CCO, Juan Camilo Ramos, and the governor of Huila, Luis Enrique Dussán.
